Dean Van Jones

It has been said that Dean Van Jones is one of the missing links from a particularly nostalgic era of music between the end of the twentieth century and where we currently find ourselves. An era that was lost like a fleeting dream, or the key to a pirate's treasure trove, buried somewhere in the future.

Dean is one who shied away from the world's glare in order to focus on the things that feed art.

​His prolific song-writing spans five decades, out-living scene, after scene, after scene and remains timeless to this day, leaving a life long impression on a select few, his intimate audiences. Those who have happened upon this reluctant musician over the past 40 years have proved themselves to be fans for life and know what has been shared with them... a unique spirit of the world.

​Dean's songs are achingly melodic, with lyrics that are honest but cryptic, thought-provoking and profound, often inducing wild and colourful imagery almost wthin reach. He celebrates the yin and yang of Humanity, drunken mindlessness in the company of friends, whispers in nature of life's beautiful madness, lives once lived, love and loss.

​The majority of music presented here was considered by Dean, at the time of recording, to be nothing more than a point of reference so that he could remember the songs in the morning.

​Most of this body of work is solo with Dean playing the instruments, doing the sound engineering and production himself. Whilst his early work can sound more "stripped back" and raw, his later work exposes a more experimental and polished production style. This is invariably due to him going from a 4 track cassette set-up with one dynamic microphone and a microverb in the 20th century to owning a digital, multitrack recording studio in the 21st century!
